Vive la Chandeleur !<\/h1>\n<\/div>\n

This week, we’re celebrating la Chandeleur <\/strong><\/em>(Feb 2), French Pancake Day\/Candlemas, by stuffing our faces with scrumpious French cr\u00eapes<\/em> and their savoury counterparts, the incomparable galettes<\/em>\u00a0\ud83e\udd24\ud83e\udd5e<\/p>\n

But what is the difference between une cr\u00eape<\/em> and une galette<\/em><\/strong> ? The main difference lies in the flour and the flavour: la cr\u00eape<\/em>\u00a0is traditionally made with wheat flour (farine de froment)<\/em>, milk and eggs,\u00a0and is commonly eaten as a dessert with sugar, chocolate or jam. Whereas la galette<\/em>\u00a0is made with buckwheat flour (farine de sarrasin)<\/em>, water and salt, and is almost always savoury, filled with ham, cheese, eggs or vegetables. But wait, here’s another layer of complexity! While the above\u00a0distinction applies to most of France, locals from the\u00a0Basse-Bretagne<\/em>\u00a0region (Western Brittany)\u00a0use\u00a0the word “cr\u00eape”<\/em> for both types, simply specifying if it is une cr\u00eape\u00a0au froment<\/em> (sweet) or une cr\u00eape au bl\u00e9 noir<\/em> (savoury)! Now you know\u00a0\u263a\ufe0f\ud83d\ude0e<\/p>\n
