As our US friends are celebrating their 4th of July<\/strong> this week, let’s look at some interesting facts about France’s contribution to the United States’s War of Independence. For example, did you know that the French monarchy supplied the American revolutionaries with crucial gunpowder, troops, and a navy, with the aim of weakening their rival, Great Britain? This nearly bankrupted the French crown, which triggered a domestic tax revolt, sparking the French Revolution just a few years later! France was also the very first country to officially recognise the United States as an independent nation on February 6, 1778.
