Bastille Day<\/h1>\n

This week, we’re celebrating le 14 juillet<\/strong><\/em>, France’s National Day\u00a0\ud83c\uddeb\ud83c\uddf7\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

If you happen to be in France for the 14th of July, you might be surprised to hear absolutely no one refer to that day as “Bastille Day”<\/strong> or “Le Jour de la Bastille”<\/em>. This is because officially, this day actually commemorates the peaceful F\u00eate de la F\u00e9d\u00e9ration<\/em>, a celebration of unity which took place in 1790, the year after the storming of the Bastille prison and was itself a commemoration of that event. Quite a meta celebration! So just remember that in France, July 14th is known as La F\u00eate Nationale<\/em><\/strong> or simply Le Quatorze Juillet<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0Now you know!\u00a0\ud83d\ude09\ud83c\uddeb\ud83c\uddf7<\/p>\n
