More importantly, how can you get feedback on what you write? Here are some ideas and resources to help you improve your French writing skills.<\/p>\n<h2>First things first<\/h2>\n<p>In order to write well, you need to read, a lot. Reading is an excellent way to improve your knowledge of French structure, grammar, and vocabulary, so be sure to make <a href=\"\/learn\/reading\">reading a variety of materials<\/a> part of your regular French practice.<\/p>\n<p>Correct spelling is essential, and in French that means not just using the right letters, but also including the right accents on them. Check out our article about the best way to <a href=\"\/blog\/best-way-type-french-accents-windows-linux\/\">type accents in Windows and Linux<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>French writing ideas<\/h2>\n<p>Our popular French Weekend Workout includes writing challenges and <i>dict\u00e9es<\/i> for <a href=\"\/pricing\">Premium subscribers<\/a> &#8211; learn more:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/learn\/writing\">French writing challenges<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/learn\/listening\">French <i>dict\u00e9es<\/i><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For regular French practice, I highly recommend that you keep a journal. If you write a little bit every day, you&#8217;ll soon find that it gets easier, just like everything you practice regularly. It doesn&#8217;t really matter what you write, though your level of French will limit you to some extent. But as long as it&#8217;s something that interests you and that you have or can find the necessary vocabulary and grammar for, you can write whatever you want.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Your daily routine (wake up, get dressed, go to work, etc.)<\/li>\n<li>Personal experiences (a party, vacation memories, meeting your best friend&#8230;)<\/li>\n<li>Book \/ movie reviews<\/li>\n<li>Letters to the editor<\/li>\n<li>Essays<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/clicnet.swarthmore.edu\/pedagogie\/miss\/ecriture\/poeme.a.ecrire.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Devenez\tpo\u00e8te et critique litt\u00e9raire<\/a> &#8211; Advanced writing exercises<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/ecrire-conseils.blogspot.fr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00c9crire conseils pratiques<\/a> &#8211; Writing tips and ideas<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/faculty.georgetown.edu\/spielmag\/docs\/txt\/resume.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Le R\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/a> &#8211; Strategies for writing a good summary. (Note that <i>r\u00e9sum\u00e9<\/i> is a faux ami.)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/lettres.ac-rouen.fr\/sequences\/argumentation\/ecriture.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Les travaux d&#8217;\u00e9criture<\/a> &#8211; Writing exercises on various topics.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Getting feedback<\/h2>\n<p>Writing is one thing, but in order for this exercise to have any value, you need to ask for corrections. You can use a <a href=\"\/french-grammar-checkers\">grammar checker<\/a> and\/or <a href=\"\/search-engines-as-grammar-checkers\">search engine<\/a> to get very basic corrections, but if you really want to improve, you need human input.<\/p>\n<p>When you have specific questions about vocabulary and grammar, you can ask on <a href=\"\/questions\">Kwiziq&#8217;s QandA forum<\/a>. For detailed corrections, try posting on an online forum such as <a href=\"http:\/\/lang-8.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Lang-8<\/a> to get help from native French speakers. Let them know you&#8217;d appreciate an in-depth proofread so that you can improve as much as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Another possibility is to find a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.studentsoftheworld.info\/penpals\/penpal_ads.php?Pays_Choisi=FRA\">pen pal<\/a>, but make sure s\/he&#8217;s a native French speaker.
