This week, we’re talking about our day-to-day routines, while practising our French routine verbs, adverbs and how to tell the time ☺️⏰

Though obviously not all French people are alike, we tend to organise our daily meals around the “4-hour rule”: breakfast at 8am; lunch at midi; a sweet snack at 4pm – actually, this snack or “goûter” is often referred to as “un quatre-heures” (even if it takes place a bit later) for that very reason; and dinner around 8pm. Stéphane tells us about the recent changes in his routine in the following text, packed with reflexive verbs in Le Présent, L’Imparfait and Le Passé Composé:

Avant, je me couchais très tard tous les weekends, et du coup, je me réveillais vers midi. Je me prélassais au lit, puis je me levais tranquillement en début d’après-midi. Je me douchais, puis je m’habillais, mais je ne me pressais pas. Puis le soir, je me préparais à sortir à nouveau. Mais cette routine s’est transformée quand je me suis installé avec ma copine Fiona. Maintenant, on se lève aux aurores, puis on va se promener dans le parc d’à côté. On s’arrête ensuite au petit café local où on se régale d’un délicieux petit-déjeuner. Avec cette routine, je profite plus de mes journées, et je me sens tellement mieux !
