The poignant poem "Dans un trou à Verdun" by WWI veteran and poet Henri Eugène Lallier captures the harrowing experiences of soldiers, in particular during the infamous Battle of Verdun. Through sombre imagery, Lallier captures the physical and psychological suffering of French soldiers and the devastating impact of the conflicts on soldiers.
