How the test works

Here's a preview of the text for the writing challenge, when you're ready click the start button above:

- I never imagined (that) Bastille Day would attract such enormous crowds! - Nor did I. I'd expected simpler festivities for this national holiday, whereas it feels like the whole city is celebrating. - I must admit that the military parade surprised me. I hadn't realised that it played such an important role. - Yes, because this parade is also a way of celebrating the Republic and the values inherited from the French Revolution. - Although I knew French history somewhat, seeing it come to life before my eyes is a completely different experience. - And don't get me started on the fireworks in front of the Eiffel Tower! I had never seen anything like it! - That's what I love about July 14th: it brings together history, tradition and celebrations. - For me, the highlight of the day(, it) was the firefighters' ball! I would have kept dancing all night long if I could have. - Next year, let's make sure that we are in Paris again for July 14th!
