« D'aussi loin que je me souvienne... » Pourquoi au subjonctif ?

« que je me souvienne... »

Il est évident que le verbe est au subjonctif, mais pour quelle raison ? Je ne le comprends pas.

Bonjour Don,

This is an excellent question! With"d'aussi que", you can use both L'Indicatif and Le Subjonctif although there's a difference:

- If you are referring to "space" (phycial), then use L'Indicatif as you are mentioning a statement / fact

_ if you are referring to a "temporal" difference, then use Le Subjonctif as this tense is linked to the notion of uncertainty where the action of recalling one's memeory is not always 100% reliable.

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !

‘ Aussi que ‘ is not directly covered in the subjunctivisor on Laura Lawless site. ‘However’, this link seems to cover this question - https://www.leaflanguages.org/french-grammar-the-subjunctive-with-indefinite-clauses/

@Maarten: I followed your link and found the reference to aussi..que. It is, however, in the context of indefinite clauses that it requires the subjunctive. Do you see such an indefinite clause in the sentence under question?

D'aussi loin que je me souvienne -- For as long as I can remember

Contrast this sentence to:

Je m'accroche à cette idée, aussi bizarre qu'elle soit. -- I cling to this idea, however weird it may be.

In the second case, the discussion of your link seems applicable because it is an indefinite statement ("...however weird..."). The first sentence seems to fall into a different category auf aussi..que.
