faire comme

'J'allais enfin faire comme mes grands frères !' as an english native i find this sentence very hard to parse, can someone explain the use of 'faire comme' here cause i see it elsewhere as well

Bonjour Owen,

'J'allais enfin faire comme mes grands frères !' --> I was going finally to do like my big brothers.

The youngster was excited that by going to school he was finally going to do as his brothers do.
