Function of 'en'
This question relates to:French interactive reading exercise "Les mamans calmes - sketch de Florence Foresti"

Hi Tom,
Maman is a countable noun and there is more than one of them thus les mamans.
Then we can express "of" these, thus de+les = des.
Then we want to express "some" of these "en" therefore we can write "Tu en connais des mamans calmes" which would mean "You know mothers (of which) some are calm"
How about that as an explanation?
Does this help?
Jim

I see the logic there. Maybe adding a comma would help further: 'Tu en connais, des mamans calmes?' (Do you know any, calm mums?)
