If one says nous rentrerons is it assumed to be chez nous or no?

Not any more than it would be in English. If you wanted to be inambiguous you'd need to add "chez nous" or "à la maison" to it. Otherwise it depends on context.

In another exercise (can't remember which one) - I wrote - "Je rentrerai chez moi" - and it was wrong. So here, I assumed that we did not need the "chez nous", since "rentrer" means to return home. It probably is right either way?
