If the two nouns are different genders?

Is the gender agreement with the first noun?

The adjective supérieures is with regard to les filles and not les garçons. Therefore it needs to be feminine plural. It isn't a question of which comes first but what noun the adjective refers to.

Les filles sont supérieures aux garçons.
Les garçons sont supérieurs aux filles.
Les filles se sont fâchées contre les garçons supérieurs.
