J'adore aussi l'odeur des châtaignes

I find the difference between singular and plural to be very subtle in spoken French, even when spoken slowly and carefully as in the audio lessons.

des (¨day¨) vs de (¨duh¨) 

J'adore aussi l'odeur des châtaignes (plural)

J'adore aussi l'odeur de châtaigne (singular)

Any hints on how to pick up that difference when listening?

Don't get stressed out. Your ears will clue into these subtle differences sooner or later. It all happens by itself as long as you expose them to spoken French. You're doing great!

 

By the way, when I was learning English, I struggled with the difference in pronunciation between "jeep" and "cheap".
