So if I wish to say I play tennis, the correct phrase is Je joue au tennis. I am unclear of the context of your question. Was it on an exam/quiz?

Yes. And I was to translate play tennis. I said ___(qqn) joue au tennis, but it was given an almost correct and the answer was ___(qqn) fait du tennis. La leçon donne tous les deux.

I do see the confusion: Il fait du tennis. He plays tennis. and Il joue au tennis. He plays tennis. So it appears to me that this is something that the staff/colleagues at the site need to look at. Je suis d'accord, votre réponse a eu correcte. Bonne chance,
