learning French language or learning how to use a computer
Since I am «old school» and did not grow up with computers, I am always curious if the online educational sites are for the purpose of simply getting people to learn to use a computer correctly or if they are for the purpose of learning the subject matter presented. To that goal, is this a user group to learn the French language or to learn the computer usage with the French language as the medium?
I hope someone can/will answer this.

Hi Ron - I'm curious to know why you would wonder that!
I can only answer on behalf of myself and Kwiziq, but our goal is to get people fluent in another language. We go to extraordinary lengths to try to make the software as easy and intuitive to use as possible for as many people as possible. This is actually very hard to do, since people can have extreme differences in their exposure to computers, interfaces and their expectations of what the various elements will do. There are also large differences across devices and interfaces, which as I'm sure you know already, can be confusing.
The general trend though is that computers are becoming much easier and more human to use across the board. They should be 'invisible' really: like telescopes, they're devices we use to enhance how we see and understand the world.
Unfortunately, for some, the glass is still a bit too cloudy. But we are constantly polishing it, I assure you!

Hi Gruff,
I certainly appreciate your response. I have been asked this question by many people in my generation who have not grown up with computers and several feel that most of the educational content is simply geared toward learning how to use the applications in lieu of learning the academic material. That was the genesis of my question.
Speaking for myself, I find the educational contact on Kwiziq and Progress quite good and have certainly revised my levels quite nicely with the site.
I have found many things in reading through the lessons that I had not heard of previously in my French studies.
