The text begins with present tense, but then why is it l'imparfait, when they are discussing menu. I didn't understand the reason behind it.

Bonjour Euphony,
In this instance, Eve is saying that she was tempted by the dish until Cyril mentioned it which made her change her mind. Hence, the use of L'Imparfait.
