This example seems a bit inappropriate

Generally your example sentences are fun as well as useful. However this one seems like it comes from another era: “ Les femmes étaient occupées: les unes cuisinaient, les autres faisaient la vaisselle.”

David,

I don’t think this is an unusual situation.

I have seen similar in France and elsewhere. It says nothing significant beyond that it occurs and it is an example of the expression covered in the lesson, in my view.

Maybe the men at the same time were setting the table and drying the dishes - a combination of activities I have personally experienced in France.

Bonjour David,

Maarten is correct. Also, this sentence is simply describing a situation.

Merci de votre contribution !

Bonne journée !
