Bonjour Karen ! I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're asking. Could you rephrase as a question?

My question is why is the Passé Composé tense correct in this sentence (Titanic est sorti en 1998) rather than the Plus-que-parfait (Titanic était sorti en 1998). I accept that it is probably the right answer but I just don't understand why that tense is used.

Thanks for clarifying. You only need the plus-que-parfait when there's another verb in the past and you want to make a point of saying that something had happened before something else happened. It's the same in English: you'd only say "Titanic had come out in 1998" if that statement was accompanied by something like "before my son was born." If you don't have a second verb, then you just want the regular past tense: "I went to see Titanic when it came out in 1998."

Thanks, Laura. That helps.
