“Un bon moyen de mettre la finance au service d'un projet de société alternatif.”

“Un bon moyen de mettre la finance au service d'un projet de société alternatif.”

Is the adjective “alternatif” in the masculine form because it’s linked with the masculine noun “projet”? Is there a chance that it should be linked with the female noun “société” and therefore be “alternative”, or is it obvious to French speakers that this would not be the case?

 Thanks, Brian

Yes, alternatif is matched to un projet de société. So it is an alternative society-project. Not a project of the alternative society.

Hi Brian,

You raise an interesting point.

I'm thinking that there may be more than one project, but this particular one is "social" specific.

This is why I believe that the adjective relates to the "project" rather than this "specific" project.

I will be interested to read the views of the other contributors.
