Why is there a "DE" before "être" in the sentence "Quelle manque de chance d'être enceinte"?

I assume it may mean "how unlucky of being pregnant" but how do I know to add the " de/d' "

Quel manque de chance d'être enceinte. -- What misfortune of being pregnant.

The de in d'être enceinte belongs to the phrase un manque de chance de qqc.
