Why the subjunctive?

I would think the subjunctive is used because of "le seul footballeur". When using the superlative or when expressing something extreme or exclusive (like "the only football player") then you use the subjunctive.

I posted to an earlier query along these lines to a similar form of words.

My thought then and for your post is that of an expression of "emotion"

It is this aspect that makes me believe that the subjunctive would be appropriate.

A subjunctive rule that I have no doubt learnt at some stage but forgotten!
