The expression “Être à l’aise dans ses baskets” is a relatively straightforward metaphor, which refers to the satisfying feeling that we have when wearing comfortable and well-fitting sport shoes (here “baskets” means “trainers/sneakers” in French) and extends it to the fact of feeling comfortable in our own skin, feeling good with ourselves, and having good self-esteem. It’s a rather common expression in French.
