In this “Qui est-ce ?” podcast series, Kwiziq’s own super detectives Aurélie and Céline will test your investigative skills as they give you clues (en français bien sûr !) to guess a famous Francophone personality. And to help you practise your listening skills, these podcasts will be accompanied by some useful vocab, grammar lessons, and interesting links to go further! Bonne enquête !

🔠🔎 Your Investigative Vocabulary

 

Here’s some useful vocabulary featured in this podcast to help you conduct your investigation:

  • en tous cas = in any case
  • être reconnaissant(e) de [quelque chose] = to be grateful for [something]
  • un domaine d’investigation = an area of investigation
  • s’attaquer à [quelque chose] = to take [something] on
  • il s’agit de … = it’s about…
  • un indice = clue
  • un calepin = a notepad
  • réputé(e) = renowned, with a good reputation
  • à plusieurs reprises = on several occasions
  • une émission = a program (TV/radio)
  • une cheffe = a female chef
  • une épreuve = a trial
  • un livre de recettes = a recipe book
  • rigolo(te) = funny
  • pas mal = not bad
  • une seule = only one
  • on y est presque = we’re almost there
  • et justement = and speaking of

  • Top Chef (French cooking competition TV show)
  • Le Guide Michelin (prestigious French culinary guidebook awarding stars to the best restaurants in the world)
  • Dubaï, Hong-Kong, Lausanne (en Suisse) (international cities – and country)
  • “La Maison Pic” (name of her main restaurant)
  • Valence (city in southeastern France)

1. C’est une femme célèbre dans le monde de la gastronomie française, ce qui est plutôt rare.

2. Elle vient d’une famille de cuisiniers très réputés, et elle a continué la tradition familiale.

3. Elle a participé à plusieurs reprises à l’émission “Top Chef”, comme juge invitée ou cheffe pour une épreuve.

4. Elle a publié une collection très populaire de livres de recettes appelée “SCOOK”, une contraction de “School” et “Cook”.

5. C’est la seule femme cheffe française à avoir reçu trois étoiles au guide Michelin.

Céline Pickard

For over ten years now, Céline has been teaching French and Italian to students of all ages and abilities in the UK. This French native speaker comes from Brittany, and likes crafts, Breton dance (of course!) and Breton music which she actually played for four years. She also has a fondness for European cinema and British History.
