Re-testing your French CEFR level

Thank you to everyone who’s written in with feedback and suggestions. Please keep them coming – we value all input from students, from criticism to high praise. All feedback helps us design better French testing software for you.

One of the most frequent requests seems to be the ability to re-take the French CEFR proficiency test which is currently not very easy to do. We hear you and we are working on some features around this.

In the meantime, I strongly recommend you don’t retake this test by creating a new account which some people seem to be doing. The reasons are:

  • You’ve already seen the questions and
  • It only spot-tests a small fraction of the content in the levels.

Getting a higher score if you take it twice or more only means you’re getting better at that one French test. It doesn’t necessarily mean you are that much better overall.

I do recommend you try our smart tests on the language Dashboard under your Improvement Timeline:

Dashboard

These buttons generate new French tests for you that are different every time based on how you did in previous French tests. They will gradually help you practise and move forward.

You can test at any level you want to, but the green button is the recommend level for you (but it’s just a guide).

In the meantime, we are developing ways that you can re-assess your level (although the system keeps track of that anyway, we recognise you may want to spot test so we’re working on it).

Thanks for you patience and do write in if you have any feedback or feature requests.

We’re listening.

Bon travail!

Gareth

well I'm another one that would like to retake your "French CEFR level test" since I took it I took an intensive class in french for a month in france and I had hoped to measure my progress or lack of it. Taking someone elses test really doesnt show anything either. well thanks for what I got and I generally like your approach though I cant easily integrate it as I would like too. Even telling me that its a one time test would have been better since I have no need to know were I was before I took the class. At least I could have known where I was no and I would have waited and used kwiziq to continue my studies on my own. Well thanks anyway

Hi Daryl - hopefully we'll be able to do this quite soon for everyone - in the meantime I have a workaround for you. If you log in again you'll be able to retake the level test.

Hi Gruff,
Just wondering if there’s been any progress with this? I’ve been an on / off subscriber for a couple of years and I’d really like the option of being able to take a periodic CEFR test
