My grandmother had the most beautiful rosebushes in her village, and she was very proud of them! Every time someone was getting married in the village, the bride was entitled to a bouquet of "Josette's roses" as well as (to ) a beautiful white rose that she wore proudly as her corsage. Her reputation had spread to the neighbouring towns, whose inhabitants came specially on summer weekends in order to admire her magnificent rose garden. The last time I'd visited her, she'd given me a cutting as a gift so that I could start my own rose garden, which had touched me deeply. Unfortunately, I don't think that her gardening gifts are hereditary, and I'm going to have to redouble my efforts and care if only to keep them alive!
