Any logic to these exceptions?

Is there some logic whatsoever to these exceptions, or will they just require some good old-fashioned cramming?

No logic. Just honker down and cram. But, on the bright side, there are only a handful of them.

I am retaining a mental image of a naval ship on which the very ordinary-looking benches are deadly. Were the ship to hit an iceberg, that would not end everything.
