I could not find rules for punctuation on your site. I tried other sites on line but they seemed confusing and inconsistent. I am sure you could do a better job explaining the rules that you follow.
Are dashes used for quotaions ?

Hi John,
Having worked on some of these exercises, I understand why we have had to simplify the speech marks in dialogues to simple 'tirets' to show another person is speaking.
Best to concentrate on the actual language content rather than the punctuation as it can differ from English, for instance, there is a space before an exclamation and question marks in French but not in English.
Bonne Continuation!

There are lots of sites on the internet that explain it. Here, for example: https://www.iwillteachyoualanguage.com/learn/french/french-tips/french-punctuation
