Audio for WC

The audio for WC sounds like “VC” instead of “double VC”. Is this an error, or is it in fact how it is said in that context in France?

Hi Brian,

This is the way a -w is often pronounced in France in words like WC, wagon, BMW, Wagner -

VC, vagon, BMV, Vagner

particularly if they come from foreign lands.

Take a look at the following Wiki page for more info -

Annexe:Prononciation du W en français

Bonne Continuation !

Brian - you can hear it via the links.

A number of online dictionaries are good sites to check many standard pronunciations - in this case Larousse demonstrates WC as per the lesson, while on Robert it is pronounced as you expected, but with the familiar variant noted.
