"C'est deux anciennes maison..."

The translation for "C'est deux anciennes maison..." is "There are two old houses."

According to the lesson "ancien=former/old," when "ancien" comes before the noun, it means "former."

Is there a situation when "ancien" comes before the noun, and it means "old"?

Hi Hillary,

As Gabrielle says, these two companies ( maisons) Despinoy and Afchain are old in the sense of established a long time ago.

I think that this would mean sort of "extant," or eg "formerly established" which is why it comes before.
