I would point out that a great and fun reading is Le Petit Nicholas by René Goscinny, the author of the Asterix comic books. It is available for free online (https://archive.org/details/LePetitNicolas_201803/Le%20petit%20Nicolas/) and structured in short chapters. I'd estimate the level at B2.
