I put in (for "I wear warm clothes") "Je porte des habits chauds,". It corrected me with "Je m'habille chaudement". However, I saw in the possible answers there was "Je mets des habits chauds". Is the object ("habits ou vêtements) dependent on the verb ("porter ou mettre)?

I have checked and
should be accepted as correct. So maybe use the Report it button on your correction board if this is not the case.
I would say that both porter and mettre are possibilities as are habits and vêtements equally possible in any permutation.
Bonne Continuation !
I don't think your answer is wrong except there's a slight difference in meaning between l'habit and les vêtements. L'habit refers to the outer layer of clothes, e.g., jacket, pants, sweater, whatever you see from the outside. Les vêtements is everything including socks and underwear. But Cécile or Céline would be better authorities on that nuance.
