Seems it depends whether you are ‘forcing’ or ‘being forced’ :

 Forcer qqn à faire qqc - to force (compel) someone to do something 

Être forcé de faire qqc - to be forced (compelled) to do something

In the transcript ‘no one ever feels compelled to (stay)’
