Ignorer vs Tenir en compte

Ignorer vs Tenir en compte

I thought "ignorer" was one of those false friends and actually meant "not to know" rather than "ignore".

Can you clarify?  Thanks.

Je l'ignore -- I don't know. (NOT: I ignore!). So, yes, its false friend.

Tenir en compte -- to take into account, to consider.

Maybe more of an unreliable friend - it can also mean "ignore".
