I translated this as ' il fallut donc qu'elle affiche son statut de veuve' Was this incorrect as it wasn't given as an option.

Bonjour Pamela,

I understand that you propose to translate the story in the Passé simple.

The exercise is written as an account of the story that would have been written originally I suspect in the Passé simple as historical text.

Perhaps this is why your current translation was not offered in passé simple?
