Is dès a real word?

What is “dès” in “dès l’âge de 3 ans?” Should it be “des?” I have never seen it with the accent.

The word 'dès' with a grave accent means -

as from,

les parents inscrivent leurs enfants dès l'âge de 3 ans = parents enroll their children as from the age of three
