"J'irai finir" versus "je vais finir"

I was wondering why "j'irai finir" is used instead of "je vais finir." Is there a subtle difference in meaning between them? Thanks!

Yes! It is difference between near future (futur proche) Je vais finir  --> I am going to finish,

and the future (futur) J'irai finir  --> I will go to finish
