Je prends toujours des lasagnes

Question

Why is it “des lasagnes’ and not “de lasagne”? Presumably I would only take one order of lasagne?

Or is it that it could be either ( which of course if it could, if I am super hungry) and the more important thing is that I can hear the difference between “des” and “de”, since it is a listening exercise?

Hi Uber, 
I am not sure why but 'lasagna' is always plural in French so 'des lasagnes ' is correct for a dish of lasagna.

It wont be 'de' because it has to be a construct 'de + le/la/l'/les.. thus du/de la/de l'/des. And le dictionnaire, Le Robert & Collin, has one entry for the english word 'lasagne/lasagna' ..and it is lasagnes (nfpl).... thus it has to be 'des'.

I think this is because lasagna is the word for the type of noodle, not the meal. You use the plural to indicate the dish because otherwise you would be speaking about an individual noodle.
