An ‘ article contracté ‘ only arises with à ( or de ) followed by the definite articles ‘ le ‘ or ‘ les ‘.

‘ .. au jeu ‘ would be the contraction of ‘ .. à le jeu ‘, not ‘ à un jeu ‘.
