Les des

I understand "des escargots"  but then why is it "les vins" ?  He tasted [some] snails... we drank [all the] wine?

Bonjour Craig,

"we drank delicious wines and he tasted snails":

You will use "les" in front of "escargots" -> generalising / general statement

Link here: le, la, l', les before before nouns when generalising (definite articles)

You will use "des" in front of "vins délicieux" / "de" in front of "délicieux vins"-> [some] delicious wines / partitive article

Link here: Using ''de / d' '' instead of 'des' in front of adjectives preceding nouns (partitive article)

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !

Hi Craig,

"les vins" as in tasting all the various wines on offer?

Hope this may help.

Bonne Journée.

Jim
