Lui vs Lui-même

In the example above 'Oh là là. Il aime vraiment parler de lui !' why is there no même after lui?  Also the 'Je n'aime que moi ?' why no même ?

Bonjour R.S.

'Oh là là. Il aime vraiment parler de lui !'  --> Oh dear! He really likes to talk about himself.

To talk about --> parler de

parler de lui --> to speak about oneself, where lui in this case is not an indirect pronoun but a stressed pronoun, the object of the preposition de.

There is no need to include même in either case.    Je n'aime que moi ---> I love only myself

Again, moi is a stressed pronoun where n'aime que means "only like" by restricting the verb aimer with "n'aime que"

I hope that this helps.

Bonne continuation

Jim
