"mais je trouve ça étouffant" Does this equivalent to "mais je le trouve ça étouffant"? Why can't we use 'étouffante' in this sentence?

Ça is an impersonal pronoun and therefore will always use the masculine form in French, hence always étouffant. You can either say:

Je trouve ça étouffant.

Or

Je le trouve étouffant.

But never: Je le trouve ça étouffant. (either ça or le, but not both)
