Why is the future rather than the present not used for this? i.e. 'next time I will choose the film' or 'next time I am going to choose the film' because it is suggesting an action in the future.
mais la prochaine fois c'est moi qui choisis le film

This question relates to:French writing exercise "What do you want to watch?"

Hi Lesley,
We could have used the future or near future after 'la prochaine fois' but as this is an A2 exercise we deliberately chose to use the present tense.
Bonne Continuation !

This is one of several ways of expressing the same idea - the idea can certainly be expressed using future or future proche. There may be regional usage differences, but English has all of these constructs too “next time, I choose/will choose/am going to choose” or “it is (will be/is going to be) me who chooses (is choosing/will choose/is going to choose/gets to choose)” … etc Some quite colloquial obviously !
