Novel vs story

If the answer was "roman policier" shouldn't the question have been "police novel" rather than "detective story" ?

Hi Jack, 

There are several translations for 'roman policier', I think 'crime novel' or 'thriller' would be acceptable too.

It is 'genre' of fiction literature and the following Wiki page might be of interest to you
