Position of prochaine
Why do we have “la prochaine fois”? Normally I see “prochain” placed after the noun, such as, to pick a random example: “J'irai courir la semaine prochaine”.

Hi Brian,
I imagine that you are already aware that the position of this adjective affects the meaning?
Before the noun "a series" whereas after the noun expressing time in the sense "next"
Examples 1) La prochaine semaine -- the following week as in a series of weeks
2) La semaine prochaine -- next week (expressing time)
