Pronunciation of produisent l’oxygène.

Question

Coucou!I dont understand the recorded pronunciation in this phrase : Les plantes produisent l’oxygène. Why is the “ent” silent in produisent?  And why is the “l” silent in l’oxygène?Merci pour votre aide

Bonjour Erin,
In French, the verb ending ‘-ent’ (-er verbs) isn’t pronounced. ‘Il regarde’ and ‘ils regardent’ are pronounced similarly, despite their difference in how they are spelt. See link here: Conjugate regular -er verbs in Le Présent (present tense)
I can hear the ‘l’ in ‘l’oxygène’. It is a little fast but it is definitely there. Listening skills can take a bit of time to develop. The more you listen to French language the better your ear will become at recognising those letters that are sometimes pronounced a little fast ;-)
