Silent “s” at the end of “vais”?

Why is the “s” not sounded when it is followed by a vowel?

Bonjour Will,

Here, the liaison is not compulsory. If you do the liaison, it sounds rather "soutenu" (i.e. rather formal), like when reading a poem for example. More often, French natives won't use the liaison in this case.

I hope this is helpful.

Bonne journée !
