Barbara,

I think you may be referencing something that relates to the expression covered in the attached lesson. 

Why is "faire partie de ..." used  -  because that’s the way it is in French, and ‘"être parti/e de …" also means something different. 

Faire partie de = To be part of (French Expressions with faire)
