Tu reçois des amis à dîner. -- You receive some friends for dinner. Here it is a not more closely determined set of friends that come to dinner.

Ces docteurs reçoivent les patients. -- These doctors receive the patients. This sentence speaks of specific patients.

Why with the above two sentences is one using “des” and the other using “Les”?
