"un" before super héros - my dad is a superhero. Why does it require "un" in French. Is a teacher, doctor, etc wouldn't, correct?

Indeed if being a superhero was a job you wouldn't put the article .

You could for instance say -

Mon père est médecin, c'est mon super héros.
