Using pour

Question

So pour is only used to describe future intent? You can't use it to describe a habitual action? Like "Nous nous rejoignons pour une heure chaque semaine"?

Jim's answer is great to learn all the different usage of the word 'pour'! However, when expressing a duration with a future intent -> use 'pour' [duration] = for +[duration]
If you wish to express a habit, you will find that 'pendant' is the preposition to use: see examples with the verb 'courir' under '(pendant / durant) + [durée] = for/during + [duration]' from the lesson -> all habits

Le mardi, on parle au téléphone pendant des heures = On Tuesdays, we talk on the phone for hours
Chaque semaine, je vais à la gym pendant trois heures = Every week, I go to the gym for three hours
